CHOICE
Have you ever wondered: What is in human nature that makes man
so prone to temptation? God created man in His image and after His likeness.
But what makes man so vulnerable to sin? I discovered one major characteristic
in Adam and Eve, and all mankind, that made them vulnerable to sin- CHOICE. Man
has a nature of choice; he is a free moral agent. You have the choice to live
right or live wrong. God never imposes Himself on anyone. If He did, it would
erase His reputation as a just God. He gives you the choice to decide what you
want. Any father who imposes himself on his children and insists they must love
him will never know true love from those children. So every human being has
this ability to choose, and God has Himself placed it in us.
ADAM AND EVE
Now let me explain this with Adam and Eve. Eve fell for the
serpent’s temptation in the Garden of Eden because she had the choice to. God
had instructed Adam not to eat of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of
good and evil, and he had in turn passed that instruction to Eve. But God left
the tree there, giving them the right to exercise their choice. So when the
devil came tempting Eve, it was her choice to either believe his lies and open
the door for sin or to believe the truth of God’s word. But she allowed herself
to be deceived by the devil and she took that fruit. Adam willfully chose to
disobey God and fall for the temptation.
Sadly, this still happens in the lives of many Christians
today. They willingly choose to disobey God. They choose to believe a lie and
are led astray. This is why you must be very careful in your life and choose
wisely to serve the living God.
THE FORCE OF CONTROL
You must decide to have control of the circumstances of your
life. You must make up your mind to have dominion in life. But to do this, you
cannot afford to operate or walk in the flesh, because control is a force that
emanates from your spirit.
God has given you authority and you must make use of it. If
you don’t take control, somebody else will, and usually it is always the wrong
person. If you don’t guard your territory, someone will come and run you out of
it. The bible says to guard your heart with all diligence for out of it
proceeds the forces of life (Proverbs 4:23). If you have a garden you don’t
tend, weeds will grow in it and before long it will begin to look like a bush.
You must constantly remove those weeds as they shoot up. Satan, the god of this
world system, constantly seeks to destroy your beautiful garden by planting
seeds while you are not watching. That’s why you cannot afford to drop your
guard; you must always be in control.
YOU HAVE THE
ABILITY.
In Paul’s prayer for the Ephesian church (Eph 3:16), he was
talking about dunamis, the flow of divine energy, God’s ability strengthening
you on the inside by the Holy Ghost. This is so that you would not be a
weakling. When you get up and say you will do something, you can do it because
there is ability in you by the Holy Ghost. You may look weak on the outside but
you are a giant within. Nothing can take you down because “…in all these things
we are more than conquerors….” (see Romans 8:37).
Consistently say to yourself “I can do all things(including
making the right choices in any situation) through Christ (the anointing) which
strengthens me” (see Philippians 4:13) because that ability resides in you.
