There are many ways to give to the
Lord according to his word. The Spirit of God admonishes us to honour God with
our substance and the first fruits of all our increase. ” Seed time and harvest shall not cease “(Genesis 8:22). This is God’s solemn declaration to
Noah, his household and ultimately to all creation after the flood. It is
important to note that giving is God’s recipe for your financial success.
Therefore, you should become knowledgeable about the various ways of giving
according to the word of God. In this edition, I will share with you some of
the ways by which you should give according to the word of God also see proverb
5:3-11
First fruit offerings
The revelation of the first fruit
offering actually came before the Law of Moses. It’s a principle in God’s
kingdom. In the book of genesis, chapter 4, we read about two brothers who came
before the Lord with their sacrifice. The bible says Abel offered a more
excellent sacrifice than Cain (Hebrews 11:4) because he gave his first fruit.
In the New Testament it is stated that “For if the first fruit be holy, the
lump is also holy: if the root be holy, so are the branches” (Romans 11:16).
”Holy” means sanctified, separated and consecrated! In other word s, if you
give God your first fruit, He’ll sanctify the whole lump. When you receive a
raise in your salary or a blessing of any kind, and you separate the first
fruit unto God, the bible says everything you receive afterwards is sanctified
as well. That means He will watch over your remaining resources. If God gets
the first fruit; it means nobody can touch your money; nobody can touch your
property because God will watch over it by Himself. He will defend the lump! If
you want God to protect your possessions and everything He has blessed you with
, give Him your first fruit because it belongs to Him, but if you don’t give
Him your first fruit, then you are keeping your resources in a bag with holes.
This is what many Christians have yet to discover, that the way to keep the
devourer away from their finances is by giving their first fruit.
Sacrificial
offerings
There is the story in the bible of
the king of Moab
who was at war with three nations which at that time had besieged him. He knew
his army was outnumbered, so he picked his best soldiers, numbering about seven
hundred, to break through the camp of the enemies. The bible says they could
not break through. Seeing the hopelessness of the situation, the king “…took
his eldest son who should have reigned in his stead, and offered him for a
burnt offering upon the wall…” (2 kings 3:27). He took his most prized
possession- the thing that was closest to his heart- and sacrificed it. He
offered his son upon the wall, meaning that everybody saw what he did. God’s
anger burnt against his enemies after he did this. What I want you to see here
isn’t whether the man was right tor wrong to have killed his son, but the
quality of his sacrifice. That was what got God’s attention! That sacrifice
changed the course of the battle; it changed the direction of victory. Not even
God stood against the sacrifice. Learn to demonstrate your faith in God through
sacrificial offerings instead of resorting to prayer alone. The demonstration
of faith is by sacrifice, not just by prayer. according to the word.
